BCL Issued for a Buyer in Thailand
A repeat client of ours needed a SWIFT MT799 message. Since they didn’t have enough cash funds in their bank account, their bank wasn’t ready to provide a Comfort Letter. The client contacted us, and we were able to facilitate their ICUMSA 45 sugar import deal by issuing the MT799 from our own bank account, blocking our credit limit. With the BCL MT799, the client from Thailand signed the sugar import deal, proving their financial worth to purchase 12,500 MT of sugar per month. This is how we assisted the buyer in signing the sugar import contract.
What is a Bank Comfort Letter?
A Bank Comfort Letter (BCL) or MT799 is a SWIFT message issued by a bank to confirm the financial capability of a buyer or applicant in support of a trade transaction.
It provides confidence to the seller that the buyer has the financial standing required to proceed with the agreed purchase. Once the seller is satisfied with the buyer’s financial capability, they may proceed with the next stages of the transaction, including providing required documents such as Proof of Product (POP), where applicable.
A Bank Comfort Letter helps strengthen trust between buyers and sellers by providing financial reassurance during international trade negotiations. It is commonly used when businesses need to demonstrate their ability to complete a transaction without making upfront commitments.
At Bronze Wing Trading Ltd, we assist businesses in arranging suitable BCL solutions through established banking channels. Our team reviews transaction requirements and provides guidance throughout the process.
MT799 SWIFT Message
Issued In Favor of the Supplier
Against The Buyer’s ICPO
Proves Cash or Credit Line
A MT799 SWIFT Message is a bank-to-bank communication used to provide financial confirmation during international trade transactions. It helps demonstrate the buyer’s financial capability and provides confidence to the supplier before proceeding with a deal.
When a supplier requires proof of financial standing, the buyer may request a Bank Comfort Letter through their bank. Once approved, the bank issues the MT799 message in favour of the supplier, confirming the buyer’s financial position.
The MT799 is commonly used in large trade transactions where sellers require additional assurance before entering into agreements. It helps establish trust between both parties and supports smoother negotiations.
MT799 Proof of Funds
Proves Financial Stability
Not A Payment Undertaking
Not The Same as RWA
An MT799 Proof of Funds is a bank-issued confirmation that demonstrates a buyer’s financial capability to proceed with a transaction. It provides financial reassurance but does not represent a payment commitment or guarantee of funds transfer.
Unlike a payment instrument, an MT799 only confirms financial standing and should not be considered the same as an RWA (Ready, Willing, and Able) message.
